Williams encourages questions raised by Albon, saying "it is constructive, not negative."

Williams team boss James Vowles welcomes Alexander Albon asking questions about his team's strategic decisions. The Englishman believes it's a good thing when his drivers feel comfortable speaking openly. According to Vowles, no one knows better what's happening in the car than the drivers themselves.

During the Miami Grand Prix, Albon was not entirely happy to hear that he needed to push harder, only to later receive instructions to manage his tires. "I can only welcome that," Vowles told Motorsport.com regarding Albon's comments. "I think it's positive. There's no one else who knows better what's going on in his car than him. I've heard this a few times now, but it's constructive, not negative."

Vowles understands Albon's frustration and explains Williams' choices

He also finds it "very normal" that Albon was frustrated by his team's instructions. "He was in a phase where we knew we had a chance against Valtteri (Bottas, ed.), but only if we could create a tire difference compared to the two of them. And more importantly, the threat from behind would be huge. It was a difficult balance. He will look back on this and realize that no matter what we did, we would have ended up there."

The Williams team boss explains why Williams couldn't offer much else besides the instructions Albon received. "It was a terrible position for the engineer because there was no good answer. If we pushed, we would look even worse. If we managed more, we would have ended up where we did. That's what I mean when I say Alex will look back and realize that we didn't know which way to go."
