Mercedes is going to build a new campus in Brackley. The project by the German racing team is expected to cost around seventy million pounds (approximately 80.5 million euros) and it aims to resemble a Silicon Valley-style environment. Multiple recreational facilities will be constructed, and several restaurants will also be present on the campus. The construction work is scheduled to be completed by 2025.
Over the past few years, Mercedes has grown to become one of the largest teams in Formula 1. Toto Wolff stated to Motorsport.com that the campus should reflect this growth. "The Brackley campus was built to accommodate 350 people, and today we have 1,250. The development of the campus over the last five years has progressed at an astonishing pace, and it now resembles a Formula 1 team with modern state-of-the-art facilities."
"But we plan to expand the campus with multiple new buildings, and will be creating a modern-style campus," the team principal of Mercedes says. The team aims to construct new marketing buildings, recreational facilities, and restaurants to provide employees with a pleasant working environment. The new campus will also be car-free. "We want this to become its own little village, with all the amenities and benefits you would expect from a Silicon Valley-like environment."
Wolff: "We're not trying to win any architecture awards"
Mercedes is also planning to invest in its staff by providing a salary increase to account for inflation in Great Britain. The new facilities are the icing on the cake. "We're doing all of this for our people. We're not trying to win any architecture awards. This isn't something that some of our competitors did twenty years ago, where the emphasis was on architecture and you get lost. In our case, form follows function, not the other way around," said Wolff.
