Frédéric Vasseur is frustrated that the Ferrari car continues to perform inconsistently. Looking at just a single lap, the Italian team seems to have all their ducks in a row, but in races the team often doesn't perform. In Miami, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz also didn't make any progress and the Ferrari drivers finished in fifth and seventh place respectively. A title fight doesn't seem to be in the cards for the Scuderia for the time being.
The week before, Ferrari impressed on the Baku City Circuit. Leclerc took the pole position, but had to concede victory to the Red Bull Racing drivers. In Miami, it wasn't just the Austrian team that proved to be too strong for Ferrari. "The qualification was good, but we were very inconsistent in the race," Vasseur was quoted by the British branch of GPFans. "I haven't spoken to the drivers, but the situation was clear."
"In the first third of the race, Leclerc had a lot of trouble, but then he recovered and maintained the same pace as Sainz," the French team boss continues. Leclerc drove behind Kevin Magnussen for a long time and in the second stint he was overtaken by Lewis Hamilton. Sainz had to settle for P5 after being overtaken by George Russell. "The result is disappointing. There will be updates in Imola, but that's not the most important thing," says Vasseur.
Vasseur: "Red Bull is flying past everyone else"
Due to the varying performances in the first five Grands Prix, a title fight seems unlikely for the Italian team. Ferrari is currently in fourth place in the constructors' championship and therefore has its work cut out if it wants to dethrone Red Bull. Vasseur sees this as a very difficult task. "There is an amazing difference between the tests and the races. We are in a group with some other teams, while Red Bull is flying past everyone else," the Ferrari team boss says.
