De Vries got stuck in severe weather, but he got help: "Genuinely heartwarming"

Nyck de Vries has had a hectic couple of days. On his Instagram account, the AlphaTauri driver writes about how he got stuck due to heavy rainfall in northern Italy (while on his way to Imola for the canceled Emilia Romagna Grand Prix), and eventually made it back home in an adventurous way.

Last Tuesday evening, around half past eleven, De Vries was on his way to Faenza for a marketing day at the AlphaTauri factory. At that time, it was already raining heavily, and earlier in the day, the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari had been evacuated. "Faenza was already flooded, and I couldn't reach my hotel. Going back to the highway was also not an option. I was stuck in a small village with a fully booked hotel."

However, luck was still somewhat on the Dutchman's side. "McLaren got stuck earlier, and their front jack, Frazer, was kind enough to give me his room. The next morning, the hotel lobby had been transformed into emergency accommodation for people who had to leave their homes. After the announcement of the F1 cancellation, I saw only one option to get back home, and that was driving through Florence. After an adventurous journey through the mountains, with the help of the local people and authorities in various villages, I finally arrived home safely."

De Vries grateful for help

De Vries is grateful for all the help he received. "I want to thank every person who was kind enough to help me. It was genuinely heartwarming to see how many people looked out for each other. My thoughts are now with those who have been affected by this tragedy. I will soon return to Faenza to speak with my team and also the people from the region. Forza!"
